First Phase of West Bengal Assembly Election Held Peacefully , Amidst Stringent Security

The first of the five phases of West Bengal Assembly election for 43 seats was held on Monday peacefully. The three Maoist dominated districts where polls were taken on Monday are for West Midnapore ( 21 seats) , Bankura (13 seats) and Purulia ( 11 seats).

Although the vote casting was slow towards the earlier part of the day , later it went faster. In a preliminary estimate , the election commission says that on an average 70% of the voters exercised their voting right.

Almost sixty thousand soldiers from the paramilitary forces were responsible for the security of the region and despite the fear that the polling might jeopardized , the Maoists were not able to disturb the peaceful election.
