Clashes between police and opposition activists in the Bangladeshi capital have left at least 100 people injured, with reports from Dhaka saying the country might be heading for a new political crisis.
The clashes took place as thousands of activists headed for a rally addressed by opposition leader Sheikh Hasina. They hurled stones at police and set fire to several vehicles.
Witnesses said the skirmishing erupted at about 2:30pm when a Jubo League procession led by Haji Selim came face to face with a group of government supporters at Chaukbazar Crossroads.
