At Least 100 Injured in Bangladesh Clashes

Riot police in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, have used batons and tear gas to disperse hundreds of opposition activists taking part in a general strike, injuring at least 100 people.

Witnesses say police also detained several protesters. Clashes between the demonstrators and police were reported in several areas of the capital.

Normal activity in Dhaka, a city of 10 million, came to a halt during the fifth mass protest action ordered this year by the opposition Awami League and a coalition of 13 other parties.

Opposition leader Sheikh Hasina and her supporters are demanding electoral reforms.

Zahurul Alam has more on the story.
