Rabindranath Tagore, the Nobel laureate Bengali poet is widely known for his philosophy too .
His philosophy is deeply imbibed in his writings in general but perhaps more specifically in his poems and lyrics. His focus on light, not merely as classically opposed to the forces of dark but perhaps as an obvious outcome of darkness has brought in a new treatment to the theme of light in literature. Light is the source of the optimistic note in Tagore’s writings but his light is at times born out of darkness.
In these few illustrative Tagore songs, on the occasion of his 145th birth anniversary, we represent this theme of interplay between light and darkness where eventually light prevails over darkness.
