Ruling Left Front Wins Historic Seventh Term Assembly Election in West Bengal


The West Bengal's ruling Left Front has retained its power for the seventh successive terms. The CPI (M) led Left Front has increased its seats from 201 in 2001 to 235 in 2006. The CPI (M) itself got two third majorities by getting 187 seats.

Trinamool Congress won 29 seats this year. Congress won 21 seats.
In Kolkata out of 21 seats, Trinammol Congress got 9 seats, Congress bagged 3 and rest of the seats won by the Left Front's candidates.

Except a few ministers, most of the ministers of the Left Front including Chief Minister, Buddhadev Bhattacharjee have won. Bhattacharjee has scored a thumping victory in Jadavpur, winning by a margin of over 58,000 votes.
