Doctors in West Bengal and other states in India intensified their protests against the government’s plan to reserve more places in higher education for the disadvantaged after an announcement that the policy would be implemented next year.
Angry doctors in different cities said they would step up their protests as they participated in sit-ins outside hospitals and thwarted a drive to recruit new doctors to replace them.
