People will Vote the Government Out: Kamal Hossain


Dr Kamal Hossain an eminent jurist and political leader from Bangladesh who is also a former Foreign Minister of Bangladesh emphatically said that people in Bangladesh are looking forward to a change and the present BNP-Jama’at coalition government will be voted out of power.

Dr Kamal Hossain was speaking at the Foundation for Defense of Democracy , a think-tank group in Washington DC. He said that the condition of the country has deteriorated so much that it was never worse than what it is now. Dr Hossain elaborated on the terrorist and militant activities in Bangladesh. He said that beginning from the attack on the life of the opposition leader Sheikh Hasina on August 21, 2004 to the suicide bomb attack on Bar Association every moment the environment worsened. He welcomed the arrests of the militant Islamic leaders in Bangladesh but added that there are many others including their accomplices within the government who have not been punished .

Dr Hossain said that they in 14 party alliance are strictly opposed to religion being used for politics. He said that in recent days with Jama’at in power , the Islamic militants have been rampant in different places and they have been demanding the same thing which Jama’at has demanded so far.

Another speaker on the occasion was an eminent economist Dr Reza Kibria, the son of the former under secretary general of the United Nations and the former finance minister of Bangladesh SMAS Kibria , who was killed allegedly by the government party cadres . Dr Kibria said that the present government is an inept and corrupt one with “murderers” working underneath.
