The executive president of the Islamic Bank Bangladesh Limited Abdur Raqib says that Islamic Bank is the largest commercial bank in Bangladesh.
He says that it is the largest bank in Bangladesh from two different points of view. First it has the largest number of branches all over Bangladesh and they have got the biggest capital as well as the largest deposit. The branch is growing at the rate of 20% to 25% each year.
In an exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service Mr Raqib claims that the Islamic Bank is the the bank run by Sharia Law and it is a bank which does not deal in interest. However he says that the profit is shared amongst the depositors of the bank and he does not think that the dividend can be termed as interests. He says that the 60 percent of the share holders are from abroad . He explains why Bangladesh Bank has alleged against them for money laundering but denies any such allegations which link them to Islamic militants in Bangladesh.
