Bangladesh Islamic Extremists Want Muslim Sect Declared non-Muslim

Bangladeshi authorities say a group of Muslim hard-liners has rallied in the capital, Dhaka, to demand the government declare the Ahmadiya Muslim sect non-Muslim. Activists from the Khatme Nabuwat Movement, an umbrella group of Sunni Muslim extremists, attempted to march toward a mosque belonging to the Ahmadiya minority but police intercepted the march.

The Ahmadiya community has around 100-thousand members. It differs sharply from mainstream Muslims over whether Islam's founder, Muhammad, was its last prophet. Bangladesh is a Sunni Muslim-majority country of 144-million people.
