India's Reliance Industries Ltd. recently announced that it plans to invest more than 30 billion rupees (US$650 million) in the communist-ruled state of West Bengal to build a retail chain of farm products and a pipeline to bring gas from eastern coast
The discussion focused on advantages and disadvantages of industrialization in West Bengal, whether infrastructure are in place to sustain such development, whether farmers will be adequately compensated etcetra.
