Five Taleban Militants Killed In Southern Afghanistan Offensive

A clash between Taleban fighters and U.S.-led coalition forces supported by Afghan troops has left five militants dead and four soldiers wounded.

Coalition officials say the fighting happened on Saturday near the southern Afghan city of Kandahar during an ongoing offensive to root out Taleban remnants in the country's south.

Officials say the wounded included one Afghan and two Canadian soldiers.

More than 10-thousand coalition and Afghan troops have been deployed in four southern provinces as part of a large-scale offensive against the Taleban that began in May.

In a separate incident on Saturday, one Spanish soldier was killed and four others wounded in a bomb explosion near the western city of Farah. Officials are still investigating that incident.
