The extreme leftist movement widely known as the Naxal Movement is on the increase in the Indian state of West Bengal. The Naxalites came into prominence towards the end of the 1960s under the leadership of Charu Majumdar.

This raised a long underlying question whether the Naxal Movement is really dead after three decades. The Naxalites are still active in parts of North Bengal and Nadia districts .
