Israeli officials say one Israeli soldier has been killed and eight others wounded in fighting in Southern Lebanon.
The Israeli soldier died in an overnight clash with Hezbollah militants near the village of Taibe, in southern Lebanon.
Officials said eight Israeli commandos were wounded during a raid on an apartment complex in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre.
An Israeli official , Brigadier General Noam Feig said on Saturday the commandos killed four Hezbollah fighters during the raid. He said the Hezbollah fighters were involved in launching long-range rockets at Israel. The official said the Israeli commandos killed five more Hezbollah fighters during a getaway.
But Hezbollah says it repelled the attack.
Local media in Beirut reported Israeli airstrikes on the city's southern suburbs today.
Hezbollah fired at least 140 rockets Saturday at northern Israel, killing three Arab Israelis.
Israel dropped leaflets on the Lebanese coastal city of Sidon Saturday, warning
residents to leave ahead of airstrikes on Hezbollah targets there.
Sidon lies north of the Litani River. Israeli officials have mentioned the Litani as a possible northern border of a buffer zone.
The head of Israel's northern command (Major General Udi Adam) said today that Israel has destroyed about half of Hezbollah's longer-range missiles.
