Yemeni Forces Kill Two al-Qaida Fugitives

Security forces in Yemen say they have killed a fugitive convicted of a 2002 bomb attack on a French oil tanker.

Officials said anti-terrorism forces killed Fawaz al-Rabeiee during a raid on a house in a suburb of the capital, Sanaa. Another suspected al Qaida member, Mohammed al-Dailami, was also reported killed during the shootout.

Al-Rabeiee was sentenced to death last year for his involvement in a suicide attack on the Limburg oil tanker that killed one crew member and dumped tens of thousands of barrels of oil off Yemen's coast.

The Yemeni citizen and 22 other al-Qaida linked prisoners escaped from jail in February.

Several fugitives have since surrendered or been captured, but others remain at large.

Among those still wanted is Jama al-Badawi, the convicted mastermind of the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole that killed 17 Americans.
