Flood, Drought to Affect Rice Production in West Bengal


The aman paddy production in West Bengal is expected to be lower by 25 per cent due to drought-like situation in the five northern districts of the state.

State Food minister Paresh Adhikary said "we are expecting drop in paddy production in the state by 25 per cent due to lack of rain in the five northern districts of the state,".

According to agricultural department the state is expected to loose 1.2 million tons of paddy as some 5,00,000 hectares of paddy producing land was affected.

However, the officials expect that there will not be any food shortage because of open market.
