Eminent social activist Medha Patkar is joining the campaign to save land in Singur, West Bengal.
She has criticized the policy of acquiring agricultural and slum lands for setting up Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
Former Prime Minister V P Singh had said that he wanted to join the campaign but west Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee spoke to Mr. Singh and assured him that the farmers will be amply compensated. Since then Mr. Singh has decided not to join the campaign.
The land will be acquired in Singur for Tata Motors small car project. Gautam Gupta has more on the story.
