A delegation of the European Union called on the Chief Advisor of the Caretaker Government in Bangladesh President Iajuddin Ahmed. After the meeting a press statement was issued where they expressed its confidence that the caretaker government of Bangladesh, in consultation and cooperation with the democratic parties and forces, would be able to take necessary measures to ensure free and fair elections.
They also said that "he EU hoped that all democratic parties and forces of Bangladesh would demonstrate the requisite leadership and responsibility and offer their support to the caretaker government in its efforts to address the key electoral issues by decisive and effective measures.
An EU spokesperson said that the high-powered delegation met with the president for exchanging views on the present political situation in Bangladesh and the measures of the caretaker government for ensuring successful and democratic elections
