A central committee is recommending Haripur in coastal East Midnapore district in West Bengal as a possible location for eastern India's first nuclear power plant. The announcement has already evoked protests by villagers there.
Nuclear Power Corporation of India chairman S.K. Jain said that they have found that Haripur has good potential for setting up a nuclear plant. Mr. Jain said that after meeting with Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya.
