The acting Chief Election Commissioner Justice Mahfuzur Rahman said that the election commission has completed all formalities to announce the election schedule. He dismissed the allegation by Awami League led 14-party that illegal arms were found in his house.
In a press conference, the Election Commission Secretary Abdur Rashid Sarkar said that it is not required by law that voters’ list should be printed before the schedule is announced.
He also mentioned that in 1991 and 1996 elections, the voter list was printed after the schedule was announced. Speaking about correcting the voters’ list, the Secretary of the Commission said that this was an ongoing process and the list could be corrected up to the last moment before the election.
