Mahanta Chatterjee, a CPI-M minister in West Bengal's Left Front government, has been stripped of the Environment portfolio.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sailen Sarkar was given charge of the Environment Ministry.
An official notification to this effect was issued by the government. The food processing and horticulture departments will, however, remain with Chatterjee, it said.
Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had recommended the reshuffle in the ministry before leaving for North Bengal on Sunday.
