Dr. Nibir Datta is an electrical engineer and has worked in the aerospace industry for the last 3 decades.
He is currently involved in the design and development of navigation and guidance systems for aerospace applications. Dr. Datta works at Northrop Grumman, a leader in the aerospace industry.
Dr. Datta spoke to VOA about astronaut Sunita Williams. Williams is only the second woman of Indian descent to fly in space. She follows Kalpana Chawla who died along with her six crewmates when the space shuttle Columbia disintegrated during its return to earth in 2003.
Dr. Datta talked about the pride and inspiration that the Indian American community feels, the realization of opportunities for the immigrants in USA and the unparalleled advances that have taken place in the aerospace industry.
