Centre of Indian Trade Unions, CITU has called a 24-hour nation-wide general strike on Thursday. West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee wants information technology (IT) sector to be exempt from the purview of general strike.
CITU and other Left trade unions called the strike on December 14 to protest against the economic policies of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government.
Shyamal Chakravarty, president of the State unit of the CITU said that IT sector people who are keen to work would, however, not be stopped.
