Hello Washington:  Literature in Bangladesh After Independence


In today’s call in show the topic was Literature in Bangladesh After Independence. Today’s distinguished panelists were Dr. Rafiqul Islam and Abdul Mannan Syed.

Professor Islam is an eminent Nazrul researcher. He was a professor of Bangla at University of Dhaka, before becoming the Pro-VC of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB). Dr. Islam is a Nazrul Professor. He has published numerous books. Among the notable positions he has held are: Director General, Bangla Academy, and Chairman, Nazrul Institute Trustee Board. He is also a recipient of the Ekusher Padak.

Abdul Mannan Syed, a noted novelist and Nazrul researcher was the executive director of the state-run Nazrul Institute. Syed, who taught Bangla literature for many years at several government colleges, received the Nazrul Institute Padak (Nazrul Institute Medal) awarded by the Institute in 2001 and the Churulia Nazrul Puraskar in 1998 from India in recognition of his work and research on the national poet. He is also a recipient of the Bangla Academy Award in 1981 for his contribution towards Bangla literature, in addition to a number of other literary awards.
