Bangladesh Strike Turns Violent

Police fought with protesters in the capital of Bangladesh Thursday during a strike aimed at forcing electoral reforms.

The day-long strike halted most traffic and shut shops and schools in Dhaka.

A number of people were hurt as riot police used tear gas, rubber bullets and batons against protesters who attacked buses and set a police car on fire.

Troops patrolled some areas in the capital, chasing and rounding up protesters.

There was also violence outside Dhaka as activists blocked roads and trains.

Amir Khasru has more on the story.
