Iraqi officials say U.S. and Iraqi troops have killed 30 insurgents during a battle in a Sunni Arab stronghold in Baghdad.
Iraqi officials say 27 suspects were detained Wednesday during the operation on Baghdad's Haifa Street.
U.S. helicopters provided air cover as troops carried out a series of raids to disrupt militias and restore Iraqi government control to the area, north of the heavily fortified Green Zone.
In another operation in Baghdad, the U.S. military says troops detained 10 terrorists after witnesses reported seeing men loading weapons into a car. They also seized four weapons caches.
And the U.S. military says an American soldier was killed in a Baghdad operation Wednesday.
Separately, the U.S. military announced the deaths of two Marines killed Tuesday in combat operations in al-Anbar province, west of the capital.
