Bangladesh Interim Government Appoints New Election Chief

The interim government in Bangladesh has appointed a former finance secretary as head of the country's election commission.

The government announced on Sunday it is naming A.T.M. Shamsul Huda to the post. It also announced a former law ministry official, Sohul Hossein, as a new election commissioner.

Five senior election commissioners resigned on Wednesday. That followed the resignation of the head of the commission, M.A. Aziz, earlier in January after violent protests demanding his removal.

Zahurul Alam has the details.
