Lalon Academy is a huge building which it is alleged is not functional at all. Preservation and patronization of Lalon songs as well as those of other Fakirs are still not a priority.
The only function the complex seems to do is arrange the death anniversary of Fakir Lalon Shah on the first day of the Bangla month of Kartik. However , the cultural secretary of Lalon Academy refuted those allegations and said that they are trying to reinstate the originality of Lalon’s songs.
Earlier Lalon's shrine was replete with big trees, flora and fauna. This ambience was ideal for the Lalon devotees. After the inception of Lalon Academy Complex, the Lalon devotees, Bauls almost disappeared . On a visit to this site, this reporter found that there were practically no original Bauls although some of the new devotees rendered Lalon Songs.
