India and Bangladesh have agreed to undertake the first-ever survey of enclaves in each other’s territory.
In a bilateral meeting between India’s foreign minister Pranab Mukherjee and Bangladesh’s foreign adviser Iftekhar Choudhury the decision was taken to undertake the first-ever survey of the 111 Indian enclaves in Bangladesh and 51 Bangladeshi enclaves in India,
It will be a huge relief to the few thousand people who have been living in these enclaves since Partition in 1947. There is little development in these small, congested enclaves where access is limited.
