Law enforcers have planned a three-tier security blanket across the country, including the prime venue of the Pahela Baishakh celebrations at the capital’s Ramna Park, with deployment of huge contingents of security people to ward off any untoward incident today, the Bangla New Year’s Day.
Intelligence agencies have beefed up surveillance all over the country for smooth celebration of the Pahela Baishakh following the execution of the six top leaders of the banned Islamist outfit, JMB, on March 30. The Wednesday’s killing of the Jhalakati court public prosecutor, Haider Hossain, who dealt with the murder case of two judges, further alerted the security and intelligence people against attempts for terrorist attacks.
The entire Dhaka city has been brought under unprecedented security coverage with the deployment over 10,000 law enforcers including police, RAB, BDR and armed police battalion.
About 50 check posts would be set up at different strategic points in the city while over 7,000 law enforcers would stand guard in and around the Ramna Park and its adjoining areas. The security arrangements would be monitored round-the-clock through 24 close circuit cameras installed in the area.
