Interim Government in Bangladesh seeks more time Judiciary Independence


The interim government of Fakhruiddin Ahmed on Sunday sought eight more weeks for implementing the court’s 12-point directive on separation of the judiciary.

The full seven-member court of the Appellate Division also adjourned, till this morning, the hearing of the contempt-of-court proceedings against 13 officials, including four top-ranking bureaucrats, for procrastination in the implementation of the 12-point directive and for distorting the court’s orders on the separation of the judiciary.

When the matter came up for hearing on Sunday, the attorney-general moved an application filed by the interim government seeking eight more weeks for implementing the court’s 12-point directive on separation of the judiciary.
