Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas held their first of planned regular meetings in Jerusalem on Sunday.
Israeli and Palestinian officials say the two leaders plan to hold their next round of talks in Jericho, in the West Bank.
Mr. Olmert and Mr. Abbas agreed to meet every two weeks during a visit to the region by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice last month.
Few details of Sunday's talks were released. But a close aide to Mr. Abbas, Saeb Erekat, said the two men discussed a possible prisoner swap of jailed Palestinians for an Israeli soldier captured by Palestinian militants last year.
Ahead of the meeting, Mr. Olmert said he would limit the talks to humanitarian issues.
