Former Bangladesh PM Agrees to Leave the Country, Son Arrested and Released

Former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has agreed to leave the country under tremendous pressure from the military backed caretaker government and on condition that her sons will also be allowed to join her.

Earlier, officials in Bangladesh arrested the younger son of the former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia as the interim government continues its campaign against corruption.

News reports say security forces arrested 36-year-old Arafat Rahman on Monday morning in the capital, Dhaka. However, he was returned home later.

Last month, Zia's elder son and political heir Tareque Rahman was arrested and charged with extortion.

Amir Khasru has more on the story.
