Bush: New Security Push in Iraq Showing Progress

President Bush says the new security crackdown in Iraq is showing progress and Congress needs to send him a bill that funds the war without setting a timetable for withdrawal.

Inthe state ofMichigan on Friday, Mr. Bush said there are still horrific attacks in Iraq, but that, in his words, the fight is beginning to shift.

He said the number of sectarian attacks has dropped significantly in the weeks since the start of the security push.

US Senate Majority leader Harry Reid said Thursday he believes the war in Iraq is "lost" and the recent US troop increase is not accomplishing anything. Reid referred to bombing attacks in Baghdad on Wednesday that killed more than 190 people in a single day, the city's worst violence in months.
