A representative of Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday moved to file a writ petition with the High Court to challenge legality of the government press note imposing restrictions on her return to Bangladesh. The High Court Bench asked the counsel to file the petition on Thursday.
Mahbubey Alam, one of the counsels for Sheikh Hasina told Voice of America that they are filing the petition so Sheikh Hasina can return home and that there won’t be any legal barrier against it.
On April 18, the Home Ministry issued a press note restricting Sheikh Hasina' s return to Bangladesh from Washington with an apprehension that her presence might deteriorate the law and order situation, disturb the prevailing stability, public safety and jeopardize the national economy.
The former Prime Minister, now in London, was barred from flying for Dhaka on April 22 as the British Airways declined to issue boarding pass in compliance with the government advice.
