Bush, Japanese PM Abe Call On North Korea To Honor Its Promises

US President George Bush and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe have called on North Korea to live up to its promises and abandon its nuclear weapons program.

The two leaders are holding talks on Friday at the US presidential retreat at Camp David ,outside Washington. North Korea's nuclear program has been a main topic.

Mr. Bush told reporters the mutual desire for the United States and Japan is for North Korea to fulfill its obligations. He said the United States does not have unlimited patience on that issue.

North Korea failed to meet a February deadline to dismantle its nuclear facilities.

Mr. Abe said Japan and the United States see eye-to-eye (agree) on the North Korea issue.

The Japanese leader arrived in the United States Thursday, on his first visit to the country since taking office last year. The president and First Lady hosted them at an informal dinner at the White House Thursday evening.

Today's lunch menu at Camp David includes cheeseburgers made with American beef. Japan's restrictions on US beef imports have been a point of contention between the two countries.

Earlier this month, Japan suspended beef imports from a third US meat-packing plant after it allegedly violated safety rules intended to prevent mad cow disease.
