A conference in the state capital of the Indian state of West Bengal emphasized on the discrimination against women. It has been observed that while the total population of India rose by 21% between 1991 and 2001, the number of women, in proportion to the number of men showed a clear decline.
One of the reasons of the decline of women is destroying the female fetus. This conference was organized by West Bengal State Social Welfare Council to highlight this social evil in India.
The President of the Social Welfare Council praised the government in West Bengal for their role in removing disparity amongst women.
