Death toll from Friday’s panic drowning after clashes on a ferry at Sadarghat launch terminal rose to 9 as fire service divers retrieved more bodies l from the River Buriganga till Saturday evening.
The clash broke out between two groups of drunken youths on a pleasure cruise and on-duty Ansars on board a ferry in the River Meghna as they were on their way to Sadarghat on Friday night.
All of them drowned after jumping into the river in panic as the youths brawled on the deck of the launch MV New Sun-4. It is alleged that the youth were involved in some sort of pleasure centering around some young girls . Some people however hold the Ansars responsible for the tragedy because of the high handedness of the Ansars.
