The US military in Iraq is reporting the deaths of five US soldiers in Baghdad and in Diyala province, north of the Iraqi capital. Officials say an explosion Friday near a military vehicle killed three soldiers in Diyala.
The military also says two US soldiers were killed and nine wounded while conducting combat operations Thursday in Baghdad. The US television network ABC says unknown gunmen ambushed and killed two Iraqi journalists from its Baghdad bureau late Thursday.
The attack occurred as cameraman Alaa Uldeen Aziz and soundman Saif Laith Yousuf were returning home from work. In other violence, a suicide car bomber attacked a police checkpoint Friday south of Baghdad, killing three people. In northern Iraq, gunmen killed three truck drivers on a road between Mosul and Kirkuk.
