Bangladesh Chief Election Commissioner Exchange views with Journalists


Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda said on Saturday that elections could not be held before 18 months counted from May 1.

He, however said that they would be trying their best to quicken it further and might be able to complete work in a year’s time. He said, in that case, they would inform the government that they would go ahead with the announcement of the poll schedule.

The Election Commission, along with the Chief Election Commissioner ATM Shamsul Huda, was exchanging views with newspaper editors and senior journalists on some of the rules which they were formulating in order to bring in reforms.

The CEC also said that the election commission is working independently and over the last four months that the interim government is in power they have received no instructions or directives from Fakhruddin Ahmed, the Chief Advisor of the Caretaker Government.
