Security forces in Bangladesh on Monday detained top political aides from the country's two main opposition parties.
Authorities seized the general secretary of the opposition Awami League, Abdul Jalil, at his office in Dhaka. Jalil is a top aide to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
In separate incidents, authorities detained two former lawmakers from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (B.N.P.), Lutfozzaman Babar and M.A. Hashem. Babar was taken from his home in Dhaka, and Hashem was picked up at his office.
Both men are associates of former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
Ms. Hasina condemned the detentions.
