The US Ambassador in Bangladesh Patricia Butenis said that reforms in political parties are absolutely necessary but this can only happen, like the political parties in Bangladesh think too, when restrictions on political activities are lifted.
She said that certain changes in the political parties are required although she is not sure whether the politicians realize this not. Butenis refused to comment on the so called minus two policy but added that it might be difficult to bring in reforms under the present leadership.
However, Butenis did not forecast the future of Bangladesh because she said the people in Bangladesh adapt themselves according to democratic needs.
