Former Minister in Bangladesh Sentenced to Jail on Corruption Charges


A special anti-corruption court in Bangladesh has sentenced a former minister to 13 years in prison for corruption.
The judge on Wednesday said Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin, a former state minister for civil aviation, was guilty of amassing wealth through illegal means. Defense lawyers say they will appeal the verdict.
Meanwhile, his son Mir Helal was convicted of abetting the father in amassing illegal wealth for which the court handed down a three-year prison sentence and fined 100 thousand Taka.
