A Special Judge’s Court on Thursday sent Sigma Huda to jail after framing charges against her and her husband, former communications minister Nazmul Huda, for taking a bribe of Tk 2.4 crore.
The formal trial of the graft case will begin on Monday with the recording of the testimony of the prosecution witnesses, ordered AK Roy, judge of the Special Judge’s Court 2 of Dhaka.
Sigma Huda, losing her legal battle in the Supreme Court on Wednesday for securing immunity from criminal cases and arrest and detention on the grounds of being a special UN rapporteur on human trafficking, filed an application with the special court, seeking time for the charge hearing on medical grounds.
Meanwhile, special judge’s court on Thursday sentenced former BNP lawmaker Ali Asgar Lobi to 8 years in jail and ordered confiscation of his wealth amounting to Tk 17,23,35,000 for tax evasion.

As Shahed Nooruddin, judge of the Special Judges Court 3 of Dhaka, pronounced the verdict, Lobi, standing in the dock, turned pale, according to an onlooker.
