The topic of today’s Hello Washington was Bangla traditional music versus rack and band music. The panelists were Azad Rahman, Selima Ashraf and Hamza.
Azad Rahman is one of the most acclaimed music directors in Bangladesh. A noted musicologist, Azad Rahman has worked for decades in the music industry. He is an icon in the film industry as a music director. He has received innumerable awards at home and abroad.
Selima Ashraf is a well known singer. She had been very active in the cultural scene in New York’s Bangla community. Ms. Ashraf is one of the founder members of BIPA, a cultural organization. She also co-founded a Bangla radio station in New York.
Hamza is the director of the popular Bangla music band Dorian in New York. Hamza grew up in Bangladesh and before coming to the States formed a band in Bangladesh and received a Dhaliwood award.
