The High Court granted bail to detained former prime minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina in an extortion case filed by a businessman, Noor Ali.
A division bench of the High Court passed the bail order following a writ petition filed by Hasina and stayed the trial proceedings of the extortion case.
The court also issued a rule for the government to explain why bringing the extortion case against Hasina under the Emergency Powers Rules should not be declared illegal.
Meanwhile, the High Court also stayed the operation of the Anti-Corruption Commission's notice to Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, which asked her to report wealth to the commission.
