India and Pakistan are celebrating 60th anniversary of their independence this week. India marked the anniversary of its independence from Britain on Wednesday and Pakistan celebrated its 60-year anniversary on Tuesday. Bangladesh was part of Pakistan when the Islamic republic' was created in 1947. Bangladesh became independent in 1971.
Today’s distinguished guests were Mr. Faruq Ahmed Choudhury, Dr. Basudev Chatterjee, Mr. Ataus Samad and Dr. Zillur Rahman Khan.
Mr. Faruq Ahmed Choudhury, former Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh and former High Commissioner to India.
Mr. Ataus Samad is an eminent and veteran journalist in Bangladesh.
Dr.Basudev Chatterjee is Ashutosh Professor of History, Calcutta University, India.
Dr. Zillur Rahman Khan , Rosebush Professor Emeritus, University of Wisconsin, USA, is an eminent political scientist.
