Debapriya Bhattacharya talks about Economic Impact of the Flood

In an exclusive interview with this correspondent in Dhaka, Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, the Executive Director of the Center for Policy Dialogue talks about the economic impact of the ongoing flood in Bangladesh.

He says that the flood of course has damaged roads, bridges and culverts and has affected crop production which may have lasting effect on price of essential commodities in Bangladesh . Debapriya suggests, as the flood water recedes, the efforts for rehabilitation should begin , instead of keeping ourselves confined to relief operation.

The infra-structure which have been adversely affected by flood needs to be immediately repaired. Agricultural cultivation, particularly the crop cultivation should start fast . Debapriya warns against raising fuel price in Bangladesh.
