Curfew Re-enforced in Bangladesh After a Three Hour Relax

The curfew was re-enforced automatically at 7:00pm after a three-hour relaxation from 4:00pm on Thursday. The authorities at 8:00pm on Wednesday imposed the curfew in Dhaka and five other divisional cities to quell a violence that began on Dhaka University campus on Monday.

Army, Rapid Action Battalion and police patrolled streets in the capital on Thursday to enforce an indefinite curfew to thwart any untoward incident and maintain peace. The curfew was enforced from Wednesday night in the wake of violent student protests over a brawl between some students of Dhaka University and army men last Monday.

Witnesses said the army and other law enforcing forces strictly guarded Dhaka University campus and its adjoining areas. In the first few hours, the curfew seemed relaxed as a number of rickshaws, cars and goods-laden lorries were seen on the city streets.

Many pedestrians were also seen walking down the streets for joining their workplaces without any restriction by law enforcers till 9am. Some people were seen going to their offices by wearing their ID cards. Although the curfew was strictly imposed in most of the cities of Bangladesh, some troubles were reported from Chittagong.
