Abed Khan, Editor The Shamokal, a Bengali daily newspaper from Dhaka welcomes Bangladesh's interim government's decision to lift ban on indoor politics. He, however, adds that the ban on all political activities should be lifted immediately and that such activities should be allowed unconditionally.
In an exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service, Abed Khan says only political activities are necessary to ensure a fair and free election about which the Chief Advisor and the Chief Election Commissioner of Bangladesh have expressed their determinations. In answer to another question Abed Khan says it should depend largely on political parties to determine that leaders who have records of doing corruptions should not be allowed to do politics. He, however, said that top leaders of political parties might not have been arrested because they were not fleeing the country.
Abed khan also emphasized on allowing the electronic media in Bangladesh to go ahead with talk shows on political matters because the government itself can get the benefit of any criticism and it can also get a clear sense of directions.
