Bangladesh Election Commission Holds Meeting With Islami Oikya Jote


Bangladesh Election Commission held dialogue with Islami Oikya Jote on Wednesday.

It is part of Election Commission’s dialogues with all the political parties in order to finalize the draft of the electoral reform proposals that will lead to a parliamentary polls being held before the end of 2008.

Chief Election Commissioner ATM Shamsul Huda and two commissioners of the commission sat with a 10-member Islami Oikya Jote delegation.

Placing the party proposals on the table, the delegation to the meeting asked for increasing the election-spending ceiling from TK 5 lakh to TK 25 lakh. The party also suggested making the provision for 33 percent female representation on the party committees optional.

The commission is scheduled to hold dialogues with 15 major political parties by November.
